What Data+ covers
CompTIA Data+ is the early-career certification for people who turn a business question into a dataset, a calculation, and a report someone else can trust. DA0-002 asks which source, cleaning step, statistic, visual, or control fits the situation. It also asks you to recognize cloud storage, containers, analysis tools, and AI ideas such as a large language model. It does not ask you to build a vendor pipeline in a specific cloud. That belongs on a path such as AWS Data Engineer.
Who it is for
Data analysts and report writers who already touch databases and spreadsheets
People who must explain a mean, a chart, and a data-quality failure in plain language
Analysts who need the vendor-neutral names before they specialize in one product
What the exam verifies
Which store, type, tool, or AI idea matches the data you were given
Which query, cleaning step, or statistic answers the question
Which visual, audience, or control keeps the result honest

Status
Current series. Launched October 14, 2025. CompTIA estimates retirement about three years after launch. DA0-001 has retired.
DA0-002 and the retired series
These pages teach DA0-002. Use the older names only when a book still says V1.
CompTIA launched Data+ V2, exam DA0-002, on October 14, 2025. English DA0-001 testing ended on April 14, 2026. Japanese and Thai DA0-001 testing ended on July 16, 2026. Both series use up to 90 questions, 90 minutes, and a published passing score of 675.
The domain names moved. DA0-001 calls domain 2 data mining and domain 4 visualization. DA0-002 calls them data acquisition and preparation, and visualization and reporting. Domain 5 is data governance. The older name added quality and controls in the title. Those ideas remain inside the V2 governance domain.
The weights moved. DA0-001 is 15, 25, 23, 23, and 14 percent. DA0-002 is 20, 22, 24, 20, and 14 percent. Data analysis is the heaviest domain. Data mining is no longer a domain name.
V2 adds topics V1 did not list. The outline adds AI concepts, including large language models, natural language processing, and robotic process automation, plus containerization, data lakehouses, and report-validation problems such as a slow refresh.

Ideas to recognize
Learn the unmarked rows first. The same map is in the core notes and flashcards.
High-yield Data+ distinctions. Extra rows are useful context the DA0-002 objective list does not name.
Pair
How to separate them
Lake and warehouse
A lake or lakehouse keeps broad native and modeled data. A warehouse holds modeled history for analysis. A mart is one subject. A silo is a store nobody else can use.
Fact and dimension
A fact table holds the measures. A dimension holds the labels you slice by. A bridge table connects a many-to-many relationship. A slowly changing dimension tracks how a label changes.
Object and block storage
Object storage keeps files as objects, often in the cloud. Block storage presents disks. File and shared storage present folders. Local storage stays on one machine.
ETL and ELT
ETL transforms, then loads. ELT loads the raw extract, then transforms it in the destination.
Duplicate and redundant
A duplicate is the same row repeated. Redundant data is the same fact stored in more than one place.
Mean and median
The mean is the average and moves with extreme values. The median is the middle of the ordered list. Both are measures of central tendency.
Descriptive and predictive
Descriptive summarizes what already happened. Inferential generalizes from a sample. Predictive estimates a future value. Prescriptive recommends an action.
LLM and RPA
A large language model generates or interprets text. Robotic process automation repeats a software task, such as an automated report. Neither one is a join.
Snapshot and real-time
A snapshot is one moment. A real-time feed moves with the source. A slow refresh and stale data are report defects, not chart types.
Masking and encryption
Masking or anonymization hides identifiers and can leave a usable value. Encryption protects data at rest or in transit. Role-based access decides who may open it.
Dictionary and source of truth
A data dictionary defines names. The source of truth is the record you trust. Lineage shows where a value came from. Metadata describes the data.
Type 1 and Type 2 Extra
The objectives name slowly changing dimensions. Type 1 overwrites the old value. Type 2 keeps history. Those type numbers are common labels the bullet list does not print.
How Data+ questions are written
Most items are multiple choice. Some ask you to choose two answers, and the stem says so. Performance-based items ask you to match a chart, a tool, or a cleaning step to a job, or to put a process in order. Read FIRST, NEXT, and BEST as ordering words: a dashboard that looks finished before the source is validated is still the wrong answer.
One fact. Name the store, the statistic, the chart, the tool, or the classification.
A short scene. A refresh is hours late, a mean sits far above the median, or a filter returns no rows. Match the scene to the cause.
A decision. Profile before you delete outliers. Validate the source before you blame the chart. Do not call a language model a database join.
CompTIA says the example lists in the objectives are not exhaustive. A question can use a technology that fits an objective even when the PDF did not print that product name. The tool objective asks you to recognize names such as Python, R, pandas, Tableau, and Power BI. It does not ask you to recite a vendor menu.
How to plan your Data+ study
A practical sequence if stores, tests, and charts still blur together.
01
Name the store, the tool, and the type
Separate a lake from a warehouse, a fact from a dimension, and a CSV from a JPEG. Know which product is a notebook, a BI tool, or a database client, and which AI idea generates text.
02
Clean before you calculate
ETL and ELT are different orders. A join is not a union. Duplicates, blanks, redundancy, and outliers are different defects. Do not delete an outlier you have not checked.
03
Match the method to the question
Descriptive, inferential, predictive, and prescriptive answer different questions. The mean moves with outliers. Tell an executive the KPI and a technical reader the field definition.
04
Pick the visual and check the refresh
A line is time. A map is place. A snapshot is one moment. If the report is slow or stale, check the source, the filter, and the data size before you redraw the legend.
05
Say who may use the result
Masking, encryption, and role-based access are different controls. PII, PHI, and PCI are different labels. A dictionary is not the source of truth. Profile for drift before you trust the file.
06
Sit a timed exam
Use the four flashcard decks until you answer before the card flips. Then take original questions and return to any domain under 75 percent. DA0-002 gives you 90 minutes and up to 90 questions. Treat the 100 to 900 estimate as a personal trend, not a prediction.
